Finally, the Boulder Creek one lane bridge to be replaced

I have driven the Duffy Lake Road between Lillooet and Pemberton more times than I can count. There are numerous single lane bridges that you come across on this road, most of them at a 90 degree angle. The government is getting rid of one more of them

NEW BRIDGE TO IMPROVE HIGHWAY 99 SAFETY NEAR LILLOOET

LILLOOET – The Province has awarded a contract of $1.6 million for the construction of a new bridge to improve the safety and mobility of travellers in the Lillooet area, announced Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Kevin Falcon today.

“The new Boulder Creek Bridge will make travel safer and more efficient for residents, industry and tourists in the Lillooet area,” said Falcon. “In addition to improving infrastructure, this project will help create approximately 15 direct and indirect jobs at a time when they’re needed the most.”

The contract, awarded to Ruskin Construction Ltd. of Vancouver, includes constructing a new two-lane bridge and improving road alignment at Boulder Creek on Hwy 99, 28 kilometres west of Lillooet. The new bridge will replace the existing single-lane timber bridge and improve the safety and mobility of the travelling public. Work is expected to begin this spring and be completed by Oct. 31, 2009.

This is one of eight single-lane bridges slated for replacement on Highway 99 between Lillooet and Duffy Lake and the second project tendered. The construction of the Cayoosh Creek #4 Bridge began in August 2008 and is over 40 per cent complete.
